Romania's alro Slatina aluminum plant faces shutdown risk

      According to foreign media reports, the Romanian aluminium producer, alro Slatina, is facing the risk of shutting down due to high energy costs. The aluminium plant is controlled by vimetco group and has accumulated a loss of US $40 million since the beginning of the year.

At the same time, the outbreak of the coronavirus triggered a slowdown in the economy and weakened demand, which also made the situation of aluminum plants worse. It is reported that, due to the decline of turnover and the increase of cost, in 2019, alro aluminum plant lost 6800 Romania Lei (14.3 million euros), while its net profit in 2018 was 235 million Lei (50 million euros).
