Progress of China US trade consultation

      China US trade consultation has been going on for some time, but no concrete results have been achieved so far. Previously, the United States had said that if the first phase of the trade negotiations between China and the United States could not be reached by December 15, the United States would levy new tariffs on $156 billion of Chinese goods as planned.

At today's press conference of the new China Development Office, Ren Hongbin, Assistant Minister of Commerce, said that as far as China US economic and trade cooperation is concerned, we all know that our attitude and position are consistent. The essence of China US economic and trade cooperation is mutually beneficial and win-win. If we stand on both sides, we will suffer from both sides. With regard to China US economic and trade consultation and negotiation, we hope that the two sides will advance the negotiation and consultation on the principle of equality and mutual respect, take into account each other's core concerns and achieve satisfactory results as soon as possible.

Li Xingqian, director of the Department of foreign trade of the Ministry of Commerce, said at the press conference of the new China Development Office that we have a clear understanding of the environment for the development of foreign trade next year. From the perspective of international market, demand growth is weak, unstable and uncertain factors are increasing. OECD lowered its forecast of global economic growth to 2.9% next year, and WTO also lowered its forecast of Global trade in goods. At home, China's foreign trade has a solid foundation, full of tenacity, and various business entities are full of vitality. We are confident that we will keep the stability and improve the quality of foreign trade.

Li Xingqian said that next step, the Ministry of Commerce will take the high quality development of foreign trade as the commanding point, focus on improving the quality and efficiency of foreign trade, optimize the layout of the international market, continue to deepen the traditional market, focus on deepening and building the trade cooperation of the "one belt and one way" country, expand the emerging market, encourage enterprises to develop a number of key markets, and improve the international marketing network and after-sales service system. We will speed up bonded maintenance and remanufacturing, promote the innovative development of border trade, promote the upgrading and gradient transfer of processing trade, actively expand imports, continue to improve trade facilitation, effectively reduce trade costs and improve efficiency.
