Capacity of several alumina projects to be released in 2019

According to the Financial Times, Heidelu's output at Alunorte Alumina Plant in Brazil will reach 75-85% of 6.3 million tons in two months, increasing the market by about 2 million tons annually. The company also plans to increase Albras aluminium production in the short term.

According to Aluminium Insider, the global Al Taweelah smelter in the United Arab Emirates will be fully operational with a capacity of 2 million tons per year, and its output is expected to be about 700,000 tons in 2019.

In addition, in 2019, new or restarted capacity projects include the Alpat Alumina Smelter in Jamaica, the Lanjigarh Smelter in Vedanta, India, and the Friguia Smelter in Guinea.

Global alumina production (excluding China) is expected to increase by nearly 4 million tons this year compared with 2018, and capacity will be further increased by 2020.
